Terms of Service

Effective June 20, 2026. These terms govern your use of Scriblit (the browser and desktop editor, together the “Service”), operated by Rich and Pamela Morgan (“Scriblit,” “we,” “us”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms.

1. What Scriblit is

Scriblit is a manuscript editor for picture book writers, available as a browser app and a desktop app. It is a writing and formatting tool only, it is not a literary agency, a publisher, a submission service, or legal or professional advice about how or where to submit your work. We don’t review, endorse, or take any rights in your manuscript content.

2. Your content and where it lives

Your manuscript text, illustration notes, and project files stay on your device (browser storage or local disk) or in a destination you choose, such as your own Google Drive. We do not upload, store, or have access to your manuscript content on our servers.

This means we cannot back up, recover, or restore your manuscript content. If your browser storage is cleared, your device is lost or damaged, or a local file is deleted, that content may be unrecoverable through us. You are solely responsible for saving, exporting, and backing up your own work, for example by periodically exporting to Word/PDF/text or saving copies to your own cloud storage.

You retain all ownership and intellectual property rights in anything you write in Scriblit. We claim no license to your manuscript content beyond what’s technically necessary to display it back to you in the editor on your own device.

3. Account data we do store

To operate the Service we store account information separate from your manuscript content: your email address, display name and avatar (via our authentication provider, Clerk), subscription and billing status (via Stripe), and, if you connect Google Drive, an encrypted authorization token used to make Drive requests on your behalf. See our Privacy Policy for details on what’s collected and how it’s used.

4. Google Drive integration

Connecting Google Drive is optional. When you import, export, or search files through Drive, your request is relayed through our infrastructure to Google’s API and the response is streamed back to you, file content is not retained on our servers in the process. Use of Google Drive is also subject to Google’s own terms of service. You can disconnect Google access at any time from within the Service.

5. Subscriptions and billing

Scriblit is offered on a paid monthly or annual subscription, billed and processed by Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price until canceled. You can cancel anytime through the billing portal accessible from your account; access continues through the end of the current billing period and does not renew afterward. We don’t store your payment card details, Stripe handles that directly.

We may change subscription pricing for future billing periods with advance notice. If a payment fails or your subscription lapses, paid features may become unavailable until payment is resolved or the subscription is reactivated; your locally saved manuscript files remain on your device and accessible to you regardless of subscription status.

From time to time we may grant promotional, beta, or complimentary access outside the normal subscription. Such access is offered at our discretion and may be modified or revoked at any time.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to upload, import, or distribute content that is illegal, infringing, or that you don’t have the right to use;
  • Attempt to circumvent rate limits, subscription checks, or offline license verification;
  • Probe, scan, or interfere with the Service’s infrastructure or other users’ accounts; or
  • Provide false account or billing information.

7. Desktop app license

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Scriblit desktop application on devices you control, for as long as you maintain an active subscription or otherwise have entitled access. The desktop app may periodically verify your subscription status, including via short-lived offline license checks when not connected to the internet; if verification lapses for an extended period, paid features may be disabled until you reconnect.

8. No warranty

The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We don’t guarantee that exports will meet the specific formatting requirements of any particular literary agent, publisher, or contest, or that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device or browser. You’re responsible for reviewing exported files before submitting them anywhere.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Scriblit and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of manuscript content, data, or profits, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violation of these terms, non-payment, or abuse of the Service. Because your manuscript content lives on your own device, termination of your account does not affect your ability to open or export files already saved locally.

11. Dispute resolution and governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the Service will be resolved by binding arbitration on an individual basis, and you and Scriblit each waive the right to participate in a class action or class-wide arbitration. Either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court instead of arbitration where eligible.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll provide reasonable notice, for example, by posting an updated effective date on this page or notifying you in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
